Among The Stars

As she lay among the stars
She breathed the light of honesty
She rid herself of deception
She found herself in a pure world

As she lay among the stars
She made her commitment
She made herself better
She blossomed into being

As she lay among the stars
She guided the world
She grew into a true human
She cleared herself of fears

But it was only,
As she lay among the stars
That these thoughts were the truth
For when she lay upon the grass
What she was among the stars
Was a mere memory

Coromandel Fishers by Sarojini Naidu

Hello! For this post I will be exploring another poem written by Sarojini Naidu, called "Coromandel Fishers". This poem can be taken as an allegory, for although it speaks to fishermen, it's metaphoric value speaks to the nation, and can be considered a wakening call for the people of our country. When I wrote about "In the Bazaars of Hyderabad", I mentioned that Sarojini Naidu was one of our freedom fighters, and believed greatly in the Swadeshi movement. Naidu reflects her passion for India in this poem.
